    Service was very slow, brought out totally wrong order! Waitress was extremely polite though! Fajita nachos very excellent. Needs some serious interior upgrades! Probably will not return.

    Nice place tucked into an unassuming strip mall. We tried the queso chorizo dip, and it was excellent. I had a simple combo platter - enchilada, taco, rice, and refried beans. All were very good, and the mole sauce on the enchilada was very tasty. As a special treat, they have Mexican coca-cola available. All in all, a good place, very good pricing, and judging by the families here on a Friday evening, a good family place.

    Before I begin this review, I must first share that my husband and I are doing our own "Food Passport" together, and to know this means, we have listed out new places to eat in a small journal and we go and try them. Montoyas was one of those places that I had heard was pretty good so we went and tried it on a rainy Tuesday evening. The place was not very busy, aside for a few tables of families and then a party of 20 in the back. (Side Note * I did notice that the sign in the window that lists the hours, shows that it's closed on Mondays...?) Looking around, the decor could have used a good scrubbing, because I could see the dust and dirty a mile away. They give you a basket of chips and three different kinds of salsa, which seems like a waste of time and money. The chips were on the stale side and the salsas had no flavor. The $4 queso dip came in a small dish, and wasn't very good. My husband got something that our waiter recommended that was like a steak fajita/taco combination. He didn't like it, stating that it lacked flavors. I had the steak fajita quesadilla (which is not named that on the menu!) and it was more greasy than anything else. I was very disappointed in this place. The woman who ran the cash register was also expediting food and I watched her touch money, tuck her hair behind her ears and then pick up someone's plate to take it out to them. We won't be returning, which is a shame because I really wanted to like it. I'll stick to Mi Terra instead.

    I really had high hopes for this restaurant. The staff was extremely friendly. I felt like they took very good care of us as far as friendliness goes. But I have a pet peeve I like my dishes cleared from the table when I'm finished eating. They were never cleared until I was standing up and stacking them altogether ready to clear them myself. The food was okay. The queso dip was absolutely wonderful. A must!! Overall I've had way better Mexican food at other places. That being said my husband says the chicken fajitas were awesome!!

    My first experience at Montoyas was great. Friendly service and the food got was great. Just passing through so I only had the one dish. I got the carnitas plate with rice and beans. Very delish!!

    It's funny how people either seem to love this place or hate it. I can't say I exactly hated it, but I would give it 1.5 stars if possible. Decor was okay, seated quickly (lots of tables at available at 6pm), service was friendly enough...however, the food was not anything special. Like others have said, the chips were stale and not very good. The salsa was decent. I got a trio so I actually tried three menu items, and they were just okay and somewhat bland. They are cheap, I will give them that, but overall I will not be coming back here. Again, it was not horrible but you can definitely find better somewhere else.

    I visited Montoya's with one of my vey best friends, who loves the place. The atmosphere is nice and the prices are good, but it wasn't what I usually expect from Mexican places. The chips and salsa were good, as were the margaritas, but the portion sizes were smaller than I'm used to. If I can finish the meal, they are likely too small for others (though like we all need to eat more, I guess). I wouldn't have minded the smaller portion size if the prices were cheaper than other places, but we didn't notice a difference. If it's in your neighborhood, it's a good place to eat, but definitely not my fave when it comes to Mexican food.

    Best Mexican restaurant in the area. Sure, you'll find better in CA, AZ or TX but there is a good selection and the prices are perfecto. Also, a fantastic choices for margarita. Go. You'll come back for more!

    I grew up on Montoyas, so it's no surprise that it's my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Cincinnati area. The family owned business, which was started by former Bengals O-Lineman Max Montoya (and later sold) is still going strong some 20 years later. The service is always good, and the food is always fresh and authentic, and you can't say that about many of the Mexican joints in the tri-state. If you are looking for recommendations, hit up the enchiladas (good mole) or the Pirata plate, which is spicy but great. I'm also partial to the chilaquiles.

    My husband and I eat at Montoya's every Tuesday for their $2.99 margaritas. We absolutely love Montoya's, and if we're being honest, Tuesday isn't the only day of the week you will find us there. It's a great atmosphere and we love supporting this family owned business. You never have to wait and the staff is always friendly and service is quick. With free chips and multiple types of salsa to start your meal, you can take your time to peruse the extensive menu. They offer all the Mexican staples but also have some selections that are more authentic. For someone with Celiac's Disease, Mexican is a go-to because it is largely gluten free, and Montoya's has always been willing to make corn tortilla substitutions for me. Not only is the food tasty but it is affordable, which makes it a great Tuesday night pick-me-up. They always have specials and are willing to accommodate large groups. I really can't say enough good things about Montoya's. They are a NKY staple for good reasons! Stop in and enjoy a margarita and some great Mexican! You won't be disappointed!

    This place was a huge let down after reading all of the reviews. We are new to the area, and this may be where the bar is set on Mexican food in NKY. First and foremost, the chips are not good. They tasted stale, and this place expects you to pay for refills. The atmosphere and crowd on the night we went was not good. The food really lacked in the flavor that we expect.

    As I've mentioned in other reviews, I'm married to a Texan. And having visited the Houston and San Antonio areas many times with him, I have a much deeper appreciation of Mexican/Tex-Mex food now. For years, we frequently went to Jalapenos in Florence. When they closed, we were left without a favorite Mexican restaurant near us. Over the years, we've tried just about every one in northern Kentucky and some across the river too. While it won't replace Jalapenos in our heart, Montoyas has become our go-to Mexican restaurant. The menu is varied and authentic. They have a very nice mole sauce which is important to me. Very tasty margaritas too. My husband likes the chicken pirata and I tend to get something different every time. Had the carne asada tacos more recently and they are the closest to the ones I had in Houston I've found outside of Texas. The only downside is that while they serve some Mexican egg dishes, they're not open during breakfast hours. If they opened for breakfast and added breakfast tacos, I'd give them six stars!

    My favorite Mexican Restaurant! They are always so courteous & very quick to help with my food allergies. My favorite thing to get is not on the menu ( a plate of refried beans, rice, tomatoes, lettuce, and guacamole) but they have never once said no & have no problem with special orders. Love this place

    Used to work in Fort Wright, KY and it was common to venture this Mexican joint once a month... Quality: 3 stars, it was definitely Authentic Mexican, but that means limited flavor with lots of fat. Beans with lard, check; lots of cheese, check. Service/Ambiance: 3 stars, small sense of smugness but still nice people overall, the ambiance is nothing special, a typical Mexican joint with no frills dining. Value: 4 stars, all-in-all good value but the salsa, food and service is average with solid prices... Final Thought: It serves well but Chipotle does a better job at serving you food that has more flavor at about the same price.

    Montoya's in Ft. Mitchell has great food, service and prices. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful! (good looking too) I will definitely go there again! Family atmosphere, nothing fancy but pleasant, quite presentable and clean.

    I hate to be the voice of dissension, but Montoya's is not where it's at. We went on Tuesday night because I recalled liking Montoya's the first time we visited. I'm not sure if they were having an off night (or the first trip had been exceptional) because the food wasn't nearly as good as I remember. Let's not mince words: the chips suck. They weren't fresh. And, if you want more than one basket of their crappy tortilla chips they'll charge you $1 per basket. What a deal. The salsas are good, though. The hot salsa has the heat I like but lacked flavor. So I settled for the mild salsa which was nicely seasoned. I ordered the Guadalajara because I have an undying love for taquitos. Not the taquitos at Montoya's, though . The shredded beef was not as spicy or tasty as the first visit. Honestly, my mom makes way better taquitos. The side dishes (the standard beans and rice) were actually cold and the rice was bland. It looked like the stuff you make from a packet. The cheese enchilada that I ordered a la carte was okay. I liked the mole sauce, my husband did not. Whatever. Three of us ordered margaritas and I'm not entirely sure there was any tequila in our drinks. So, I washed down the sub-par Mexican food with some sweet and sour mix on the rocks. Tasty. I could go on. Our waitress apparently had better things to do than wait on us. There was a gang of very unhappy children running amok. My husband said the men's bathroom was not clean (always a sign that the kitchen probably isn't the cleanest either) and he dried his hands with toilet paper rather than use the grotty hand towel hanging from whatever old-timey contraption houses their communal hand towel. Yuck. There are other Mexican restaurants in the area I suggest you check out before venturing into Montoya's.

    Montoyas is the best Mexican food I've had around here. I usually get the chicken jalisco, it is very good. The chicken has got a great juicy flavor. Also, don't skip the al a cart menu...their tacos are mighty fine too. Sometimes they have cheap drink specials. $1.50 for a mug of beer. Not bad.

    Have been here several times. Service not so good - friendly but slow and incomplete- ex chips but no drinks, didn't refill salsa after asked. Food was pretty good. Like the queso con chorizo and horchata.

    Authentic Mexican food in Northern Kentucky? Yep. Mix that with super friendly service, Dos Equis on draft, and some pretty nice margaritas - that earns this restaurant its 5 stars. Located in the middle of a shopping strip, it didn't look like it'd be the best. But, my in-laws have been coming here for years and my husband (who came here when he was just a kid) and I decided to give it a try. The chips were okay alone but if you dip them in the hot salsa, they are awesome. The Pirato Plato was excellent and the Chilequilas were almost just like the dish that was served in Mexico on our most recent vacation. Enjoy the meal with yummy Mexican rice and some refried beans and you've got yourself a delicious dinner. If you've got non-adventurous little ones, the kids' menu has typical American food fare.

    We went here because I was persuaded to try something other than Rio. It was just "OK" I'd go back if your in the area for lunch or a quick dinner or something. Service good, atmosphere was ok. I'd try it again.

    Montoya's is addictive. I've probably been there more than 50 times over the years and have always left happy. Lunch is fairly priced and is generally crowded but service is usually fast. Dinner is relatively expensive for a small Mexican joint. It's a treat however and worth the money. I strongly recommend the Pirata Plato, Queso con Chorizo, and a house Margarita. I know people who drive an hour for this meal. Hopefully you have a heart surgeon on retainer as fat (and flavor) abound. I would suggest the reviewer who had a bad meal try again. I was born in New Mexico and raised on this kind of food and Montoya's is just good.

    Wow ... I'm going to be the bad guy here, but here goes. I really wanted to like this place. I know the owners are related to Max Montoya (former Bengal great), so I was stoked to try it. Boy was I let down. The salsas were not impressive. My enchiladas were tepid at best and honestly, the best part of the entire place was the wait staff. Super friendly but that can't make up for sub, sub, sub-par Mexican food.

    Placed order and waited 50 mins and it never came. Turns out waiter lost order and we never saw hide nor hair of him during those 50 mins. Had to flag him down and ask him where the food was. Left hungry and very disappointed. No recommendation here.
